Check identity before results

Confirm the report covers the correct part number, drawing or specification revision, configuration, quantity, lot or order, and sample or unit identifiers. Verify the test date and any conditioning or assembly state that affects the result.

If several configurations share one report, the record should show which results apply to each configuration.

Match method and limits

A familiar test name does not prove the correct method was used.

Read the result at the right level

Review failures, deviations, and retests

Look for missing original values, unexplained exclusions, repeated tests without a reason, or a changed fixture or method. The record should show the failure, containment or action, retest basis, result, and final disposition.

If the method was changed after a failure, treat the new result as different evidence and record who authorized the change.

Common report problems

Typical problems are a pass column with no part revision, a measurement without units, a limit that cannot be traced to the method, a test program name with no version, and one report reused for multiple configurations without mapping the samples.

Ask for a corrected or clarified record rather than inferring missing identity, method, or acceptance information.
