Avoid nominal-size substitutions

Two wires with the same gauge can differ in stranding, conductor diameter, insulation diameter, flexibility, temperature range, and terminal fit. Record the complete construction or controlled part number before pricing an alternative.

Is AWG alone enough to select a wire?

No. Conductor material and stranding, insulation material and diameter, temperature, voltage, flexing, routing, termination, and equipment criteria can all change the acceptable construction.

Why does insulation diameter matter to a terminal?

The conductor barrel and insulation support are designed for defined ranges. A nominal conductor size can still pair with an insulation diameter that does not fit the selected terminal or seal.

Who should set current capacity and voltage-drop limits?

The equipment design authority should provide the electrical criteria and applicable method. MTTJ can manufacture and check the assembly against the supplied drawing, component data, and test requirements.
