Confirm the exact lifecycle event

Record the manufacturer, complete part number, notice identifier and date, affected variants, last-order and last-shipment information where stated, and any manufacturer-recommended successor. Verify whether the notice affects the housing, contact, seal, lock, accessory, or an entire family.

Keep distributor availability as a separate supply observation. Stock in a channel does not change the manufacturer's lifecycle status and may not cover the complete connector system.

Build a demand and inventory scenario

Use the current forecast, order cadence, service or replacement demand, expected design changes, and a clearly stated time horizon. Separate usable on-hand stock from open purchase orders, unverified channel offers, and material reserved for another configuration.

Model excess and shortage outcomes. A last-time buy can protect continuity but can also create unused material if demand or the design changes.

Compare replacement paths

A replacement can change more than the housing.

  • Mating and mechanical: envelope, latch, keying, mounting, cavity numbering, and cable exit.
  • Termination: contacts, wire range, insulation support, seals, accessories, strip data, and applicator tooling.
  • Assembly: routing, overmold or strain relief, fixture nests, test adapters, labels, work instructions, and packing.
  • Evidence: component data, material records, fit, pull or retention, sealing, electrical or functional tests, and sample approval.

Release and communicate the change

Update the drawing, BOM, approved-source list, work instructions, inspection plan, fixtures or programs, labels, packaging, and records that identify the part. State the effective revision and disposition of existing material and work in process.

Keep temporary deviations time- or quantity-bounded and visible. Do not let an emergency purchase become the undocumented production standard.

Common EOL mistakes

Avoid reacting to an unverified stock message, purchasing only the housing without contacts and seals, or treating a recommended successor as approved. Another frequent error is calculating last-time-buy quantity without expected design changes, unused-material exposure, or the time required to qualify the next source.
