Keep prototype and production records distinct

Mark sample-only substitutions, hand operations, temporary tooling, and incomplete packaging. If those differences matter to repeatability, close them before the production drawing and control plan are released.

Can a prototype be built with open drawing items?

Open items can be handled when they are listed clearly with the temporary build assumption and approval owner. Critical safety, fit, component, wiring, or test information still needs enough definition to build and inspect the sample.

What should be recorded after the first build?

Record the actual component set, approved deviations, measured critical dimensions, test results, visible issues, tooling or process observations, and the drawing changes required before the next release.

Does prototype acceptance release production automatically?

No. The equipment program should identify the production-release package, including drawing and BOM revision, accepted deviations, test and record scope, packaging, and change-control expectations.
